I left for Pasadena at 3:15 a.m. Saturday morning and arrived at the Doubletree at 9:30 a.m.

(yes I took this picture while driving…. Still 164 miles away from LA. Phoenix is about 400 miles from Pasadena)

Bruce was not scheduled to be there on Saturday but the Fansource dealer room with auction items was open and I was eager to see if there were any SMK scripts or other goodies. I met up with my friend there and got to know a lot of the other fans that I previously only knew from the BB list.

I bought an SMK script and sat with some of the people and chatted. Stephanie Powers (Hart to Hart) was scheduled for an Autograph session that day so I decided to get her autograph since I always liked her in Hart to Hart. She was very nice and looked great. The first thing she said when she saw me was "Oh, another red head" <g>.

I told her that I used to watch Hart to Hart in Germany growing up and that Jennifer Hart actually had the same German voice as Kate Jackson in Scarecrow and Mrs. King. She thought that was a very interesting little piece of information. I took a quick picture with her (but that did not turn out well as you can see, because I blinked) and thanked her for the autograph.

After that I decided to drive to my hotel to check in and take a nap since I had not really slept the night before. In the evening I met up with my other girlfriend from LA and we went to Universal City and had a nice Sushi dinner.

Sunday morning I went to the Doubletree to check out some more of the auctions in the dealer room and bought some more SMK scripts.

Then I sat in the hotel lounge with all the other Bruce fans. There I was finally able to meet up with my "Tombstone Posse" buddies Boots and Karen (we missed Debra though, she was not able to come).

Bruce’s Autograph session was scheduled for 3 p.m. so as the line formed we found out that he was stuck in traffic because of an accident on the highway and would be a little late. Finally he arrived and the signing got started.

Bruce took his time as usual with every fan and patiently signed everything, answered questions and took pictures. I did not attend last years Fansource but was told that the signing line was much shorter this year and I guess that helped. Karen and I decided to walk up to the table together. Karen had given Boots and me a wonderful framed picture collage of our time with Bruce at Tombstone and when we put it in front of him to sign he looked at it and said "We sure had a great time there".

We asked him about his hair, because it was so long and colored and he said that he was not allowed to cut it because of the filming of G&G so it would cover the beard. He talked to us about the filming a little bit and then I gave him my frame to sign. I also had planned for him to sign my Figure Skate, since I would be skating to the Theme of Babylon 5 at a Competition in Las Vegas 5 days later. When I put the skate in front of him and explained the reason behind my request he said: "Oh, I did not know you do that." (Well Bruce, give me a call and I’ll keep you posted, LOL). He signed the skate "To Kerstin, With Luck" and I can tell you it sure helped (or maybe it was the hard work I put in?) because I skated clean 5 days later.

Of course when I mentioned the Competition in Las Vegas it prompted him to tell Karen and I the story about Jerry Doyle’s mugging in LV and how he would not give the mugger his wallet. We laughed at that and told him that we were not at all surprised that Jerry would say that. After that we took our pictures with Bruce and went to the Reception room and waited until the signing was over.

Bruce was still in the "Green room (signing room)" when Martha and Greg arrived and they got some private time to reunite since they had not seen each other since the show ended (14 years). We were told that Bruce was very emotional when he saw those two. He then came to the reception room and talked about Gods and Generals for about 30 minutes and then started to talk about Mel Stewart and how Mel had such a hard time to remember long dialogs and all the technical talk during filming. He said that in every scene in Billy Melrose's office when Mel had to talk about all this technical stuff, he would laugh so hard he was crying or doubled over, because Mel got it all mixed up but still kept going to safe the scene.

He very fondly remembered Mel, and once Martha and Greg joined they recalled a few times were Mel just had the hardest time remembering his lines, and that at one point after a few cuts at a scene in Europe Mel finally got his lines out and Bruce was so relieved, he totally forgot his lines. Martha said that she was always ready to do Mel’s lines for him, since after the first season she had so few lines she learned everybody else’s.

Bruce told the story how, while in Munich, he was supposed to meet someone at a bistro in Munich during their shoot in Europe and Martha teased him saying: "Oh Ingrid…", he looked at her shaking his head and said: "No, Daphne…." … and then started laughing really hard. In the end he just said that whoever it was, he was supposed to me her.

He also told the story how Mel had rented a car in Munich and he could not find it after parking it somewhere. He asked Mel where he had parked it and Mel said "Under a lamp post" so Bruce responded "Oh – that’s good" (since there are a bazillion lamp posts in Munich) and then Mel said "The name of the street was………. Umm… Strasse". Bruce laught and said "Mel, it’s not Strasse Street…… Strasse is German for street". Bruce then said "and guess what – it was a Mercedes…. They are all Mercedes’ " …..that story was hilarious.

They all agreed that they had a wonderful and exciting time filming in Munich (Germany), Salzburg (Austria) and London (UK) – and of course there were moments of friction but those were resolved pretty fast. If anyone wants to know more detail they would have to watch the videotape that was taken during the reception.

Another funny story Bruce told was about the Porsche that Bruce/Lee drove. It must have been the one bad Porsche in all of the US <g> because it always died in the middle of a scene (Bruce made a sound that showed how it sounded when it died, LOL). That was the main reason they got rid of it and Bruce was very excited to get the Corvette. He also said that although he was this highly trained operative, and he looked at Greg and said "Your mother" (Amanda) had to come with the frying pan and save the day (of course we all know that Amanda never used a frying pan) ;-)

I know there were so many more stories that were told and it would take forever to write it all down. I am just going to highlight some of it, but as I said before, for complete information please refer to the Fansource Video.

Martha told us that she got out of the business soon after SMK ended mainly because it seemed that they were looking mostly for Brunettes. She said she did some Real Estate thinking it would be really cool, but the experience was not very good. She then joined a band and that’s how she met her husband how she has been married to for 1.5 years. He is a musician and she joked that the first thing he did was fire her from the band – that’s how they met. She also said that Bruce was always very protective of her and her choices in men during SMK (I guess she dated some that did not speak English). She joked that since he speaks English she married him. She looked very much in love and looked at her husband (who was sitting in the back) quite a few times and smiled.

Greg also brought his wife and told us that he really had a great time on the show and only positive memories and that Bruce and Kate were always wonderful and supportive of him and Paul (Stout). Bruce also told us that both boys were always well behaved and that there was never any trouble with them. Greg recalled being "The Tree" (in "There goes the neighborhood") and that they asked him to put on brown tights…LOL. Later on Martha recalled that at the beginning of the third season they showed her a rack with her clothes and they had decided that she would be wearing brown (she and Greg joked that they might have used his brown "Tree" tights) and even though she did not really care for brown clothes, she joked that since she already had the big hair (which she hated – that was not her choice of hair style) it did not really matter anymore.

Martha and Greg were very surprised how much we all knew about SMK and Martha kept saying: "You guys are scary." She kept joking that usually at those Q&A’s the audience asks the questions but here it’s the other way around. One time they wanted to test us and asked what’s the title of Episode 42 (I think – don’t quote me here) and of course we knew that one. They were stunned, LOL

When they decided that it’s time to sign some pictures of Martha and Greg we all took the opportunity to take more pictures with Bruce too, and I got a great shot with him and ¾ of my "Tombstone Posse" Buddies.

Boots, Bruce, Myself and Karen

I talked to Greg and Martha and got their autographs on the pictures and my script that I had bought the day before and then took some pictures too. After that I just mingled and talked to Martha’s husband and to Greg’s wife for quite some time. Everybody was so nice and they all appreciated the attention so much and were happy to see that there are still so many people interested in the show.

Bruce and Martha (with Greg’s wife to Bruce’s left and Martha’s husband to her right) re-enacting the "Paparazzi Shot" that Martha told us about. When they were in Munich at a big banquet the press took a picture of Martha and Bruce and it shows them holding their hands in front of their faces. Martha could not remember why they would have tried to hide, but she said she still has that.

By 9:20 p.m. Bruce said goodbye to Martha and Greg. Martha stayed a little longer and then left too but Greg and his wife stayed until 10 p.m. They were still there when I left but all around us the hotel staff was cleaning up and taking the chairs out of the room.

It was an exciting afternoon/evening and my head was spinning with all the stories that were told and the laughter that we shared. I would not have wanted to miss this and I am so glad I drove those 6 hours to Pasadena to attend Fansource. I’ll be back next year !!!
